Over, under, around and through, meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through.
I learned how to tie my shoes in Nordstrom. As my parents’ first and only child, they had no idea how to raise a little misfit like me, so instead of daycare, my mother took me to Nordstrom. I grew up there and ultimately Nordstrom would become my second home, my sanctuary.
At the age of five, most children would run around the store and hide in racks, not wanting to try on clothes their mothers picked for them, but I had something else in mind. Captivated, I watched as a freckled red-haired woman found a pair of black leather Stuart Weitzman boots she adored. I watched her reaction when it was the slightest bit tight and then shortly as she tried the next size up her grin grew into a smile. I observed the clothing, noticed the small details, sumptuous silk compared to paltry polyester, perfect pleats, and the impeccable Japanese selvedge on Adriano Goldschmied jeans. It was then I realized, I exist for fashion.
Over, under, around and through I read every fashion book I knew. I call myself a fashion nerd because I’m not just interested in the clothing. I’m fascinated with the whole industry. Things like copyright lawsuits, new marketing techniques, and advertisement campaigns all make my heart race more than you can imagine. I’m intrigued by old world fashion, Parisian haute couture and the ateliers. Every now and then you’ll hear me blurt out a random fashion fact, like did you know that Napoleon invented buttons on sleeves?
Fashion is more than pretty clothes and glamour (although these are some the best parts). As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” My goal is to bring people a new perspective of fashion and prove that it’s more than just clothing – that there is a whole enthralling industry attached to it.
Over, under, around and through, meet Mr. Bunny Rabbit, pull and through. I learned how to tie my shoes in Nordstrom and undoubtedly, as that little girl grew, so did my love for fashion.
